軽井沢に建つ別荘「Tull weekend home」を撮影させていただきました。
設計は建築家・三井嶺さん。

撮影前、まだヤグラのように柱だけが立つ段階で現地を訪れ、三井さんからこの建築の考え方を伺う機会がありました。

山の斜面に建つ別荘では、斜面を見下ろすテラスを設ける計画が一般的ですが、この建築ではそれをあえて設けず、建物を敷地の端へと配置しています。
そのことで建物の前には大きな余白が生まれ、囲いがあるわけではないのに、森に守られているような外の空間が生まれていました。

自然との距離をできるだけ近く保ちながら、人が静かに居られる場所をつくる。
そんな三井さんの建築の思想が、この場所には丁寧にかたちになっているように感じました。

ディテールに使われた木や石の素材もとても美しく、思わず手で触れたくなる。
撮影をしながら、気づけば長くその場に佇んでしまうような、贅沢な時間でした。

I photographed the villa “Tull Weekend Home” in Karuizawa, designed by architect Rei Mitsui.

Before the shoot, I had the chance to visit the site while the building was still in an early stage—when only the columns stood like a yagura tower. At that time, Mitsui kindly shared with me the ideas behind the architecture.

Villas built on mountain slopes often include terraces that look down the hillside. In this project, however, that approach was intentionally avoided. Instead, the house is placed at the very edge of the site. By doing so, a generous open space emerges in front of the building—an outdoor area that feels protected by the surrounding forest, even without any physical enclosure.

Maintaining the closest possible relationship with nature, while creating a place where people can quietly exist.
It felt as though Mitsui’s architectural philosophy had been carefully realized in this setting.

The wood and stone used in the details are also beautifully chosen—materials that make you instinctively want to reach out and touch them. While photographing, I found myself lingering there longer than expected, immersed in the quietly luxurious passage of time.
